Nikon Reviews: Best Nikon Zoom Cameras

Zoom is often one characteristic that makes the difference between getting the shot and missing it entirely. Cameras with big zooms have been growing lately, thanks largely to the fact that smartphones can't compete with such hefty zoom lenses. Nikon zoom cameras span the category with inexpensive basic models to the current leader with a whopping 83x zoom, the P900. The camera giant makes both compacts and bridge-style cameras that can pack in a lot of zoom.

We were quite pleased with the P900, where options like the P600 was good, but didn't quite measure up to the competition. Nikon is also one of the few manufacturers who offer a wide range in this category, from a budget model under $250 to a $600 high end option.

Like their compact cameras, there's a bit of a naming system here. All of Nikon's higher end, bridge-style options that include manual modes and the bigger zooms have a "P" designation in their name, where the "L" bridge-style options are the budget models and have a much smaller reach. Nikon also puts a big zoom in a few of their compact Coolpix S cameras as well. The numbers further designates a level--the P900 is better than the P600--and the age--the P610 is newer than the P600.

Here are the Nikon reviews for the zoom cameras on the market right now.
